No ID needed on this one (unless somebody is immediately stricken with genus and species), but I do have a question: I seem to recall reading somewhere that most of the mantid species found in this country are non-native and imported from either Europe or Asia. Do I recall that correctly?
Anyway, I thought the specimen was interesting. I've seen these little ones in swarms shortly after emerging from the egg sac, but this tiny little guy (1.8 cm) dropped from somewhere above onto my camera lens with an injured, outstretched right wing. I looked around fairly extensively, but could not see any others, so I suspect s/he did not emerge in the vicinity where I found him/her. S/he was a jumper too, so it took a little "wrangling" to keep her/him in one spot long enough to get an image.
