Before submitting a picture for identification, please read the following instructions. Given the limited time our staff has to identify pictures, it is important that everyone follows these rules when submitting.

Rules:
  1. First make sure your picture is of a spider or an arachnid. If it has 6 legs, please submit it to the Insect Identification forum.
  2. Attach an image to the thread by using the Manage Attachments button at the bottom. If this feature is confusing, we highly recommend using the free image hosting provider www.imgur.com. This is an excellent alternative and an easy way to upload and share a link to your image.
  3. You must provide the geographic location of your picture. City and state is most desirable.
  4. Provide a general description of when and where your spider was found. Example: "In the garage in the morning of April 5."
  5. We have the most experience identifying spiders in the United States and North American region. However, you are welcome to submit a picture regardless of your geographic location.
  6. Submit pictures for one type of spider per thread. In other words, if there are two different spiders you want identified, please create one thread for each spider instead of having groups of pictures of different spiders in one thread.
  7. Please be patient. It can take us a few days to get to your post. Other members of the community will also assist with identification.

  9. Submitting a picture to this forum grants us a royalty free license to freely use your picture throughout our online content. Proper credit will be given to you and your website, at your request.
