    Spider???

I found this in my dogs water dish this morning. I think it might be the same thing my wife found the same way a couple weeks ago(I did not see-she has not seen this).
I've lived in the foothills of Northern Cali all my life and have never seen one like this. I don't think it''s dead yet even tho it remains all curled up.
I'm in the Sierra Foothills where it is hot and dry east of Auburn CA. Thanks in advance!

Close relative of spiders, an arachnid called a "camel spider," or "wind scorpion," or "sun spider," "solifuge," and several other names. It is a non-venomous predator that is mostly nocturnal, hiding under debris or in a burrow by day. Pretty common, but misunderstood. LOTS of misinformation out there, so be careful where you go to learn more! Here's a link to a blog I did about them:

That's a good place to start. Hope I've helped!

OMG! It is a friggin camel spider!1! Lol!
That was the first thing that crossed my mind when I saw that head/those jaws.
Thankyou Eric. I had no idea that there was anything like this around here. Any guess as to how they end up in the water?
It's a stainless steel bowl that would be nearly impossible to climb into.
Are they falling off my dog? She is a thick-coated German Shepard who is out in the dirt alot. Thanks again.

The water dish thing puzzles me, too. They can climb fairly well, though....
