    No clue?!?!?!

We found this guy in our basement last night. Brown, little bigger than a quarter in size with it's legs... We live in western NY so we have never seen a spider like this in our house. A little freaked out by it and were looking for any and all help in identifying and whether or not we should be concerned this is in our home!!

That's a possibility but I just always thought Wolf spiders were larger in size compared to this... This was roughly a little large than the size of a quarter

    PJ:

Nice image of a hacklemesh weaver in the family Amaurobiidae. Pretty sure this is Amaurobius ferox, a common species in your region. No species in the family is considered by science to be dangerously venomous. Males of the hacklemesh weavers tend to wander in search of mates in the spring (most spiders mature in late summer or early autumn and wander then). Occasionally they stray indoors.

Hope this helps! We will have a species guide page on this spider going up on our website soon, so keep checking!

    Eric
