spider devouring a scorpion
Is this a cellar spider? I get these little scorpions in my house – not as nasty as the species further south in Arizona but still don’t want one in your boot…This is why I love spiders!
I think it is. There is a national geographic video on utube of a cellar spider in Australia capturing a little scorpion. Their webs seem to be very strong and sticky. The web does half the work. The spider in Australia wrapped its prey totally. Ure one just wrapped the stinger and tied it to its web. The minimalist approach.
Wow! That’s impressive! I saw one of my Cellar Spiders prey on a Black Lace Weaver, Amaurobius ferox, a much larger species. These little guys are surprising.
Cool. I didn’t even notice that she webbed-up the stinger. Thank you Nod for your eye for detail!
