Comments & ID Thoughts

IT IS VERY BEAUTIFUL, BRILLIENT GOLD BACK,I think it is a white banded Hawaiian Garden Spider, (The nearest I could find on the internet).2 inches tall. On the underside there is a bright yellow "Y" SHAPE MARKING. It stays in the center of the web rain or sunshine; I saw it build the large web three days ago. ( Thank you for an interesting site) Martin Pegrum.

Martin, Welcome to SpiderID! These are gorgeous spiders with beautiful webs. 🙂 I’m surprised that she stays out in the rain. She may be large enough to be unharmed by the force of impact of rain drops. Smaller spiders and insects can be killed by the force, many spiders in my yard have died from rain storms. Your spider’s orb web is very strong and can absorb relatively high force impacts from large flying or jumping insects. The straight line silk is very durable, the circle strands have the sticky coating.

She is beautiful. You have an artist’s eye. ❤️
